Lanarkshire Local Medical Committee Ltd is the representative body for all NHS General Practitioners within the Lanarkshire Health Board Area.
We exist to advise NHS General Practitioners on all primary care issues, including doctor remuneration and conditions of service.
With our support, General Practitioners can create safer and more sustainable working environments and provide patients access to the best, most appropriate standard of care.

LMCs have existed since 1911, and serve as local representative committees to reflect the needs and interests of NHS GPs to local networks and wider NHS authorities.
Lanarkshire LMC Ltd is an independent and self-funded registered Limited Company. Our accounts and previous statements are accessible online.
We want to provide a safe space for General Practitioners to make their voices heard.

Lanarkshire Local Medical Committee is run by a group of experienced General Practitioners, who co-ordinate business and provide advice between meetings on new and emerging issues in Primary Care.

VICE CHAIR:
Lynn studied in St Andrews and Manchester and graduated in 1996. She returned home to Glasgow to work in Monklands Hospital and GRI for house jobs. She qualified as a GP in 2000 and has been a partner in Coatbridge for 24 years.
After becoming a Partner she then completed a MBA at Glasgow University.
Lynn joined the LMC, representing Coatbridge, in 2004, is Vice Chair and also represents Lanarkshire on SGPC.
She is particularly interested in contract matters and the benefits of Independent Contractor status. She represents the LMC regarding the Pharmacotherapy service and strives to represent GPs in the continuing development of this service.
In her spare time she is busy with her 3 children, loves being outdoors and is now trying to regain her golf handicap after a parenthood induced break.
MEDICAL DIRECTOR:
Alleged to be in the latter third half of life and career, Tyra has the butterfly mind of the distracted school child she plays Pokémon with. A wealth of information, often with no idea exactly where it came from, if she can’t fix your issue, she’ll be able to find you someone that can. And if it can’t be fixed just yet, she’ll identify the underlying problem and tackle it with decision makers. Failing that, your spirit will be lightened with sympathy infused sardonic summary and sarcasm.
More seriously, Tyra is the Medical Director of Lanarkshire LMC and Secretary of Lanarkshire’s GP Sub-Committee, having taken up these roles in 2016, and been on the LMC since the late 00s. Having previously worked as an NHS GP locum, Salaried GP and GP Partner in both practice-owned, practice leased and health board owned premises, her main role since 2019 has been representation of GPs via LMC and GP Sub and nationally at SGPC (Scottish General Practitioners’ Committee) with some locum work as an NHS GP.
She is passionate about NHS general practice and the independent contractor model and says of herself and others, “A GP is what I am; an NHS GP partner, NHS Salaried GP, private GP, or whatever our contract, are all jobs that utilise the skill set of a GP”. Being an LMC medical director lets her use these skills in the role that counterparts call ‘being the GPs GP’.
CHAIR
Dr Russell is a GP Partner in Bellshill and has been a member of the LMC for 14 years.
He has strong family roots in Lanarkshire and his grandfather was a well-known Airdrieonian. Sadly, Dr Russell has inherited none of the footballing ability, or general sporting prowess, that seems abundant in the rest of his family, but such heritage has influenced his interests within medicine. He enjoys Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine and as part of his duties for the LMC and GP Sub sits on a number of committees involved with these fields.
He attempts to overcome his limited athletic pedigree with some occasional golf and enjoys keeping fit and attending the gym as this requires little in the way of skill.
He also sits on the LMC executive committee, a role he very much enjoys, with the aim of improving the working environment of GPs in Lanarkshire.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dr Caroline Gilchrist is a GP Partner in Blantyre.
Known for loving a theme, with hair to match, she’s a veritable mine of information.
Caroline is a cluster lead alongside being an active LMC Executive member with expertise in Vaccinations, Mental Health, Primary Care Diagnostics and getting the best out of people with curiosity.

I’ve been on the LMC now for almost 2 years and decided to join to help local GPs have an awareness of what they should and should not be doing by highlighting URTOW. I also think it’s important to know what is going on within NHSL and wanted to give our locality a voice, particularly as Stepps is such a small practice with lots of cross boundary issues.
In my spare time I am kept busy with my super sporty 8 year old twins. I also enjoy playing lots of tennis and am 1st team Captain at my club.
